Scripture record that Jesus was seriously accused by the Pharisees and the teachers of the law for being friendly with sinners. To them, it was a taboo for the one who claims to be the holy Son of a Holy God, to eat and hang out with the unclean of society. Jesus had a mission… He did not come to the world for the healthy and the pious. He came to seek and save the lost. Mark 2:16-17 (NLT) 16 But when the teachers of religious law who were Pharisees[a] saw him eating with tax collectors and other sinners, they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat with such scum?[b]” 17 When Jesus heard this, he told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”
She really didn’t know how she got into the chapel
She has made a vow; never to attend this kind of club
No, she wasn’t afraid of God; was skeptical of the holy folks
Like a sheep to the slaughter;
quietly, she sat there watching and waiting
The sermon didn’t paint her pain to the club;
it painted the loveliness of a God who saves
For the first time in her life, she found God to be appealing
He looked into her eyes and saw the emptiness in her soul
She is mesmerized by a God who can only fill her empty heart
Out of her brokenness, she surrendered to the Lover of her soul
I sat face to face with her [I will call her Brooklyn], on this beautiful first Sunday of the year 2012, in my office. My heart was full of love towards Brooklyn, without any form of condemnation. I Was so thankful to God for the opportunity to declare His love to the reproached of society. I knew I was the answer and solution to Brooklyn’s unsecured life, not because I was smart enough for the occasion. T’was the unmerited grace of Christ. Had Brooklyn met me two years earlier, I would have recommend professional counseling, as the antidote for her pain.
Most Church leaders consider the lesbian and the gay community as a no go zone. We are so sensitive, thinking we might offend people if we dive into their ocean, for a rescue mission. This sense of attitude within the body of Christ, has created a great gulf between the saint and the sinner. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation. Our stereotypical attitude towards certain group of people has rendered us powerless and ineffective, in changing lives.
We condemned and judge, sitting on the fence with pious faces. We are called to save the lost! Thank God, I had then had a personal encounter with Christ Jesus and His great love towards the bad and the ugly. An encounter which radically affected the way I see people. I always look at people from the lens of Gods love, which surpass human understanding, irrespective of the gravity of their evil behavior. I knew then that God was not angry with Brooklyn, as she sat there with zero peace in her life, through the journey to the unknown. Life was so sour in her mouth; the riches of Jesus heals and restores a dysfunctional life to a life of purpose and meaning.
For almost like twenty minutes, I shared with Brooklyn the sweetest love of Christ Jesus. Her outer disposition was very overwhelming …she injects a thug life fear into your soul, as she looks into your eyes, without a blink. Like a baby, she was enchanted by the saving power of Christ, and melted into the arms of the one who has power to forgive and transform. Suddenly, she burst into tears, asking Jesus to flood her soul with forgiveness and crown her mind with peace. She was empty, wretched and lonely. To make a long story short, Brooklyn was instantly saved from twenty-five years of bondage with the opposite sex, she called wife.
She later told me that she and her many friends had this form of mindset against the Church of God. They see the Church of Jesus to be unappealing and unreceptive to the gay community. January 2014 was exactly two years of her transformed destiny. Hallelujah, Jesus saves! On last Sunday, May 18, 2014, a now transformed Brooklyn, led our church choir in a most fantastic, inspiring, song ministration to the glory of Christ. Isn’t it beautiful; how our God will just pick the rejected and the reproached and set them on the rock, to glorify His own name.
For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears.[a] He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” (Zephaniah 3:17 NLT)
Friend, here we are; standing on the mountain top of grace
In the deepest valleys of life; the fields are white for a harvest
How beautiful are the feet of them who brings glad tidings
Turn your condemnation tools into pruning hooks of love
Why wasting precious time, debating with the government
We [Church] are the solution center to a bleeding world
We not afraid to be called friends of sinners for heaven sake
